Oamaru woman Rita Webster still has wheels on the eve of her 100th birthday… The near-centenarian…still drives her car to the shops, is in remarkable health, reads the newspaper through low-cost reading glasses and takes the bare minimum of medication… "I've had a wonderful life, really - nothing was ever a bother," she said.

Age Concern Wins Top Community Award

Age Concern Tauranga is the winner of the top award at the TrustPower Tauranga Community Awards.  Age Concern Tauranga won the Supreme Award at the prizegiving at the TECT Arena and will now go on to represent the region at the 2012 TrustPower National Community Awards in March 2013.

New Figures Show Older People Significant Portion of Society

Media Release: Age Concern New Zealand, 15 May, 2012   

Age Concern New Zealand says new figures show the significant portion of society older people make up. The figures, released yesterday by Statistics New Zealand show those over 80 are the fastest growing age-group with the age group growing at about four times the rate of 20 years ago. There are presently more than 160,000 New Zealanders aged over 80 but Statistics New Zealand estimates this number could reach half a million by 2050.
